Quelques recettes a la Chantilly

Hearts of Princes

When a prince would die, their hearts were removed and buried
separately from the body - usually at a family tomb. The pics below
are of the tomb for the princes related to the Duke of Aumale (at
Chateaux Chantilly).

Check this guy out at the train station-and he was carrying a sword!
Some serious stalking by me.

Library and monkey room

Bethan.....look at this library. The duke of this chateau was pretty
fond of his books!

Most amazing grand stable

For Maddie....we saw stunning horse stables today and watched a
dressage show which dad will post a video of later. It was at the
Chateau Chantilly.

Innkeeper's daughter

These are folks outside the restaurant where he died. The girl in the
doorway was the innkeeper's daughter whom Van Gogh actually painted a
portrait of, she was 13.

Van Gogh's death

This is the restaurant and lodging that Vincent Van Gogh stayed in and
died in. He was bipolar and during a manic phase he painted 80
pictures in 70 days and then shot himself in the chest. He didn't die
immediately and got Himself back to his room at this tavern and died
two days later in his room with his brother by his side. It has been
untouched ever since. We saw it. He died in 1890. The village in which
he ended his life at 47 is lovely and peaceful after the bustle of
Paris which is also why he left Paris.

C'est fini!

French fashion spotted

Saw these two Hello Kitty gals last night on the street corner while
having dinner....interesting!

Gates of splendour

Is it any wonder the French people rebelled knowing their taxes were
funding THIS while they lived so poorly. Think of Les Miserables!

King Louis' also got to play

Of course the Kings also wanted to play. So he had a grand canal built
in his "yard" where he would have war ships recreate battle scenes for
him to delight in watching!

We had a picnic lunch on the banks of this grand canal looking up at
the chateau.

Live like the peasants

Marie Antoinette, queen of France during this opulent time, likes to
play peasant! So she had her own little play village build on the
grounds so she could play peasant. Story has it that the pigs were
scrubbed daily and painted to match whatever colour she wore that day
when she strolled down to her peasant "play" village. This is her mini
play village.

The majestic Louvre

The number of pieces of art that must be in this massive palace is
beyond belief. It goes on forever. And the glass pyramid in the center
court.

My drawing I finally finished

Incredible building

So cool and modern sandwiched in between two typical Parisian oldies.
Zoom in to see the detail.
