Casa Mila "La Pedrera"

La Pedrera means "The Quarry"
This is the one building I did not see the last time I was in
Barcelona. It has crazy curvy walls on the outside - all carved from
stone. The rooftop is famous for the wonderful shapes and treatment
of it's fixtures.
Enjoy!
This is one of the stairheads.  It covers the spiral staircase.  It also has a water storage tank inside.
These are chimney tops.  They are like helmets with eye holes.  They are decorated in broken green glass bottles, instead of tiles.
Another stairhead.  You can see how big they are.
This is a picture from the rooftop terrace, overlooking Barcelona. You can see the stairhead on the left, and off in the distance on the right is the Sagrada Familia (that crazy church from the last time).
Here is a great shot of the whole roof top terrace. You can see some of those chimney tops - but undecorated. The whole roof has different levels - you have to go up and down a few steps to get from one section to the other. Its amazing up there.
Casa Mila has an atrium in the middle to let light into the apartments. This is one of the things that made Gaudi very famous.

Flippin' Jackrobat!

Apparently Jack saw a couple of hot girls in the hallway at school yesterday and in an effort to capture their attention he decided to do a back tuck in the hallway!! They thought it was cool. I am guessing when we get a call from the school about his antics, it won't be so cool. But if that wasn't enough, he threw one again in the Science classroom.....while the teacher was out. Out of control highschool kid!

Petra is here in Milan!!!

I just saw her in the hallway.  Big hugs!

Birthday cake and butter tarts!

Bare Bones

My hotel room is so cheap, it doesnt even come with soap.  No shampoo either.  And only one towel.
I had to go to the front desk and get all sinister looking in order to intimidate the guy enough to go looking.  He looked in a box behind the telephone, with all the rubber bands and paper clips.  I gather he doesnt get a lot of requests for soap or conditioner.
No wonder Europeans smell when they travel.

Hello from Lyon

I arrived safely in Lyon after a very bumpy flight from Toronto to
Frankfurt. Despite being in a sleeping berth, I hardly slept because
of the turbulence. I did have some rather dark thoughts, I must
admit.
The line to get through Frankfurt airport was hot and smelly because
Lufthansa is offering €29 flights - so it was packed. I only had
minutes to spare.
I got into Lyon on a beautiful sunny day. A dance group is putting on
a day-long parade which shut down Place Bellcour. My cabbie dropped
men on the wrong side of the parade. I was cut off from my hotel, so
I had to get another taxi to get me there.
I am completely exhausted but am going for dinner with my client. I
had a stroll around to get me bearings. Now I am trying not to fall
asleep... Which is very hard.
I do have free wifi in my hotel, so I can use that.
